There is a lot to consider when hunting for somewhere to rent though, the location and the condition of the property being two major factors. This is why it’s important to check it thoroughly before signing anything. After all, what could be worse than spending all day moving into your ‘new’ property, only to find an oven caked in grime that sets your smoke alarm off every time it’s turned on?

If you notice that the kitchen is in a state, why not suggest to the landlord that they contact Ovenu for our premier oven cleaning service before you move in? Our friendly local technicians will dedicate themselves to restoring any oven to a spotless condition.

Let’s face it, whilst most of us can probably live with the remnants of our own cooking, the thought of inheriting somebody else’s is far from pleasant.

Oven Cleaning Services for Landlords and Tenants FAQs:

Who is responsible for the stove in a rental property?

By law, it is the landlord's responsibility to provide a stovetop and oven to their tenants in order to cook hot food. The Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) and the Homes (Fitness for Human Habitation) Act 2018 both state that tenants must have the means to prepare food safely.

Therefore, all electrical white goods supplied by a landlord must be safe. This includes providing gas safety inspections every 12 months for appliances necessary.

Do landlords have to clean between tenants?

It is the landlord’s responsibility to keep their properties clean, safe and healthy for the new arrival of tenants. Although tenants are expected to leave the property as they received it at the beginning of their tenancy, this doesn’t mean they are sometimes left in a different state.

Conducting a thorough deep clean between tenants not only ensures your next tenant will be happy to move in, but also that any hidden damage presents itself to the landlord to fix.

Should a previous tenant leave the property in disrepair, it is the landlord's obligation to rectify any fixtures and deep clean the premises before another tenant moves in. This includes making sure that all white goods, such as the oven and extractor hoods, are in safe, clean and working condition.

Can landlords charge a cleaning fee?

If your previous tenant has left the premises in an unsatisfactory state. The cost of a professional cleaning service can be deducted from the deposit acquired at the beginning of the tenancy. This includes any necessary professional oven cleaning to ensure all white goods are up to health and safety standards.

Can a landlord charge for oven cleaning oven?

If an oven is brand new prior to the tenancy it is the tenant's responsibility to clean the oven back to its original condition. However, this is not always completed and if so, a landlord is entitled to charge for professional oven cleaning to align with their obligation to provide the following tenant with safe, clean and working white goods.

How often can a landlord inspect a property in the UK?

A landlord has a legal duty to inspect all gas appliances once a year, and thus this is the minimum requirement to inspect a property. Tenants must be informed of any inspections a minimum of 24 hours prior.
